L’exposition “Because it’s in my nature” (curateur Dieter Debruyne) met en avant le travail de trois artistes visuels belges (Lieven Lefere, Isabel Devos and Jasper Léonard) fascinés par la dualité symbolique de l’humain et de la nature.

Les ready-made d’Isabel Devos constitués de traces naturelles peuvent être perçus comme autant de paysages possibles. Ses abstractions peuvent être reliées à un questionnement centré sur la frontière explicite entre nature et culture humaine, mais aussi comme une recherche entre photographie et peinture.

En hommage posthume à la vision de Le Corbusier, Lieven Lefere a construit un instrument de vision qui permet d’observer l’horizon différemment. Il veut ainsi souligner que le paysage, et donc l’horizon, sont le produit de l’interaction entre le construit et le non-construit, de la même façon que l’image photographique est toujours le résultat de l’interaction entre le cadre et l’objet ou entre l’appareil et la réalité.

Par des interventions physiques au moment de la prise de vue, Jasper Leonard produit une imagerie psychédélique qui évoque la manipulation digitale. Il questionne ainsi la compréhension qu’a le spectateur de la photographie contemporaine à l’ère du numérique. 

Urbanautica est une plate-forme photographique consacrée à l’anthropologie visuelle et au paysage culturel qui a commencé modestement et qui touche maintenant quatre continents et des milliers de followers. Au fil, des ans l’équipe d’Urbanautica a mis en avant une réflexion critique sur la photographie, tout en collaborant avec des institutions internationales pour des projets d’expositions, de livres, de lectures de portfolios, d’ateliers et de conférences. En juin 2015, Urbanautica a organisé des lectures de portfolios à Gand (Belgique). Parmi les vingt-cinq participants, trois ont été sélectionnés pour participer à une exposition à Paris organisée en collaboration avec le Paris College of Art et la Galerie mi*.

The exhibition 'because it's in my nature', curated by Dieter Debruyne, focuses on the works of 3 Belgian visual artists (Lieven Lefere, Isabel Devos and Jasper Léonard) that are fascinated by the symbolic duality of man / nature dialectic:

Isabel Devos' ready-made remnants of nature translate themselves into the possibility of a landscape. The abstractions can be traced back into a focus and investigation on the explicit border between nature and human culture, but also as a research between photography and painting.

As a posthumous tribute to the understanding of Le Corbusier Lieven Lefere built a viewing device that allows us to look at the horizon in a different way. He wants to emphasize that the landscape and thus the horizon is a product of the interaction between the built and the unbuilt. Just like the photographic image is always the result of the interaction between frame and object or between device and reality.

The “in-camera” manipulationsresulting in a psychedelic imageryare in fact on-the-spot technical interventions that seem digital. In this way, Jasper Leonard plays with the viewer's knowledge of contemporary photography in this digitalized world.

Urbanautica is a journal focused on visual anthropology and cultural landscapes that came from humble beginnings, and has now a spread in 4 continents and thousands of followers. Through these years the team of Urbanautica has enhanced a critical thinking about photography while collaborating with institutions around the world through exhibitions, books, reviews, workshops, lectures. In June 2015, Urbanautica goes offline to organize a portfolio review in Ghent, Belgium. From the 25 portfolios there were 3 participants selected for an exhibition in Paris in collaboration with Paris College of Art and mi* Galerie.
